Community Service

Community service is defined as volunteer work done for free in order to give back to the community.

It is a non-paying job performed by one person or a group of people for the benefit of the community or its institutions. It may be performed for a variety of reasons:

• • Requirement of a government for giving citizenship in lieu of military service.
• • Substitution or addition to criminal justice sanctions.
• • Mandated by schools to meet the requirements of a class.
• • Volunteered by individuals or an organization to benefit a community or its institutions.

However in India Community Service is either done voluntarily or as a part of social responsibility by the organized sector.

Community Services by Psycho Educational Society

Objectives of Psycho Educational Society being uplifting the rural poor and creating awareness regarding family welfare and health; the community service activities are focused on:

• • Education
• • Vocational Training
• • Healthcare
• • Direct help to needy

Psycho Educational Society conducts skill development programs in the BDP School for village women in tailoring, embroidery, knitting and agriculture. These programs are offered everyday / once in a week after school working hours. Till date, more than 250 village women have benefited by these programs. Good percentage of the girls trained in tailoring become capable of supplementing their family income.

The school has computer laboratory headed by a well trained teacher. More than 300 boys and girls of the village have become computer literate by making use of these facilities.

Computer lab facilities are also being offered to the students of the neighboring schools.

Regular health check up camps for poor people living in the remote villages is arranged. Over 1000 villagers hailing from remote villages of UP have already been checked for diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases etc. Free medicines are distributed for the poor as per doctor’s prescription. In addition to these camps, awareness programs on personal hygiene and health care are periodically conducted in the village.
